Add Oils to your Regimen for Gorgeous Healthy Hair

Natural oils have for centuries been part of our hair ritual. They still form part of our hair regimen today. All hair types can benefit from the use of oils, that’s why recommend that you add oils to your natural hair regimen.

What are the benefits of using natural oils?

Natural oils are known for their hair nourishing benefits. They are rich in different types vitamins, fatty acids, antioxidants. Oils help create a strong and healthy foundation for hair to grow. So whether you’re dealing with dryness, dullness, or damaged strands, natural hair oils will help strengthen your hair and enhance its texture.

Which oils are best for natural hair?

The list is probably endless, but we have our ultimate favourites. It is good to note that some oils can penetrate the hair shaft while others  replenish the lipid layer on the surface of the hair. Here’s a few of our favourites;

  • Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids that nourish and moisturize the scalp and hair. Coconut oil is unique because it's similar to hair's natural lipid structure and able to penetrate the hair to condition your hair from the inside out. This strengthens the hair, promoting growth, fullness, and density. However, if your hair type is on the drier, coarse side, it will do the exact opposite. So if you have fine or medium hair with high porosity, you will benefit from using coconut oil as a pre-shampoo and moisture sealant. Use sparingly to avoid weighing down your hair and protein buildup. Pure, unrefined & virgin coconut oil is your ideal choice.

  • Castor Oil

Castor oil is an anti-inflammatory oil that can enrich your scalp. It contains ricinoleic acid and omega-6 fatty acids and therefore when massaged onto the scalp it helps in increasing the blood circulation which improves hair growth. All hair types can benefit from using castor oil. Use as pre-shampoo and moisture sealant. Also use as heat protectant. Do a patch test to determine that castor oil is compatible with your scalp. Avoid if you suffer from dandruff. We recommend getting cold pressed, meaning there was no heat involved during the extraction process.

  •  Jojoba Oil

Jojoba is a lightweight oil that rich in vitamins and minerals that nourish hair, including vitamin C, B vitamins, vitamin E, copper, and zinc. Due to its nutrient-rich structure, jojoba helps to moisturize and condition hair by penetrating its outer cuticle. It is identical to sebum (the oil produced by our body’s sebaceous glands). Use as a hot oil, sealant or scalp treatment to retain moisture. A great option for Fine hair and low porosity hair. Also  works for those battling with dandruff or dry scalp.

  • Marula Oil

Marula oil is a lightweight oil rich in vitamin C and E, protective antioxidants that nourish and add moisturize to the hair follicles. It has anti-inflammatory properties that help to prevent and treat itchy scalp, as well as trapping moisture. It also works wonders on dry, brittle ends and flyaways. Use as a hot oil or scalp treatment to retain moisture. This oil plays well with low porosity hair and fine hair.

  • Baobab

Baobab oil is excellent moisturizer that high in omega-3, 6 and 9 fatty acids as well as Vitamins A, D, E and F. Another of our favourite lightweight oils that is intensely hydrating and is known to easily absorb into skin and hair without leaving a greasy residue. A perfect choice for low porosity hair and fine hair. Use as hot oil treatment and watch dry and dull hair become revived again.
